Hi, Why was I banned? Marko

RobusEtCeleritas • 1d

Hello,

You were banned for spamming /r/Physics with crackpot nonsense.

Cheers.

executivemessage • 1d

Why do you think it is crackpot nonsense? Did you read my paper? The theory is straightforward, matches up to all the math of GR and QFT, and the experimental results. There is nothing astounding to the theory other than its surprising that the physics community hasn’t figured it out before.

Look, I am not in the field, but I have a MSEE from CMU and a BSEE from RPI. I’ve worked for 40 years in engineering and I have never seen any difficult problem fit together as cleanly as my theory. It simply uses two charged particles right under the standard model. They spin and orbit, and emit electromagnetic fields, which is all reasonable.

It’s actually really awesome. However, I have had no success getting people in the physics community to even look at it. This despite the 40 year dry spell in physics that the physicists admit themselves. One of the basic scientific methods is to revisit assumptions.

If you could offer some advice on how to get the physics community to engage I would appreciate it. I tried r/hypotheticalphysics but no engagement there.

Best, Marko

Hi,

I’m not trying to be rude, but I’m not going to beat around the bush.

Your theory is nonsense. I know that you honestly believe that you’re onto something, but so do all the other people like you that we get on a weekly basis.

Literally nothing in your comment history on /r/Physics is correct. And even if that weren’t the case, this is not the place to advertise your personal theory. When you first posted it here, I directed you to /r/HypotheticalPhysics, because it’s not something we allow here.

If you want to engage with the physics community, get a formal education in physics. I’m not exaggerating when I say that every person with a “.edu” email address listed on a physics department website gets an email at least once a month from somebody who thinks they’ve discovered a theory of everything. Retired engineers are the worst culprits.

You need to fully understand the state of modern physics before you attempt to rewrite it. Just stringing together characters in a “paper” does not constitute a theory. It has no substance.

Cheers.

I appreciate your response. I hear you about the physicists getting emails. And I am sure a lot of people positing their theories are wrong. But none of those are scientific arguments against my theory. They are just frustrated physicists dealing with noise and forgetting that every once in a while there is a real signal.

I wish I could get just a few open minded physicists to look at what I’ve found.

Is there any way I could get you personally to engage and review my theory?

I don’t know if you saw the alternative history physics game I posted yesterday. I worded that as a thought exercise. Hopefully that was ok in r/physics. It poses some simple starting assumptions and then challenges the reader to think through solutions to basic questions as if it was 100 years ago, before Copenhagen.

Anyway, I won’t bother you anymore if you don’t want to engage. However, If you do want to engage that would be great.

Thanks for at least helping me understand more about why physicists are so reluctant to engage new ideas.

Best, Marko

We will not be reviewing your personal theory of physics. Please stop contacting us about this.

Cheers.

I was having a conversation with RobusEtCeleras, not you Midtek.

This conversation is visible to all mods. We will not be reviewing your personal theory of physics, and you have already been warned to stop contacting us.

Hmm. Why was I banned from r/askphysics? It says “ no real rules”.

executivemessage • 1d

In a way this is symptomatic of the problems in the physics community. I answered a question with a totally legitimate answer, in a sub that has “no rules” and the T-cells (mods) have attacked my answer as heresy, when it is actually pure scientific method about challenging assumptions.

I say this from the perspective of someone who has developed a model that will bring on the a new era of physics that will be far more productive and exciting. I know that many physicists have a knee-jerk reaction to someone saying something like that, but that is also part and parcel of scientific history with the Luddites of any timeframe resisting new ideas that have gone on to reframe the field.

As for the mods wielding their power unfairly, well, that is for you to reconcile. I don’t have time to deal with that kind of nonsense. You will come down on the wrong side of history and only you will know because you hide behind your anonymity and have no accountability.

You will come down on the wrong side of history and only you will know because you hide behind your anonymity and have no accountability.

No, here’s what will actually happen:

You will spend time and effort in your twilight years trying to push your utterly nonsensical “ideas” about physics. Nobody will ever listen to you; nobody will ever care. Your ideas, which are in fact, complete nonsense, will fade away into oblivion just like those of all the other uneducated crackpots.

You don’t understand any physics, and you are not in a position to come up with any groundbreaking ideas in any area of physics. You are nothing but a nonsense factory. Get over yourself.

executivemessage • 1d

For a field which has produced nothing new in forty years, the hubris and ego of physicists is remarkable.

Despite their claim to adhere to the scientific method, they will dismiss any new idea without even reviewing it, unless of course it is the true nonsense of people within the field who are permitted to dream up ridiculous ideas like many worlds, susy, m theory, and my thumbs would get tired to type the whole list.

Meanwhile an amateur comes along with an exceptionally straightforward model that any high school physics student could understand and is ostracized.

Whatever.

For a field which has produced nothing new in forty years

That’s probably the least correct thing you’ve said, and nothing you’ve said on physics-related subs on Reddit has been correct.

the hubris and ego of physicists is remarkable.

The only thing worse is an engineer.

Despite their claim to adhere to the scientific method, they will dismiss any new idea without even reviewing it,

Your idea is not even wrong. It’s incoherent drivel from somebody who doesn’t speak the language that physicists speak. You don’t know any physics. You are not capable for forming legitimate groundbreaking ideas about physics.

unless of course it is the true nonsense of people within the field who are permitted to dream up ridiculous ideas like many worlds, susy, m theory, and my thumbs would get tired to type the whole list.

You have absolutely no understanding of the MWI, M-theory, SUSY, etc. The fact that you would compare them to your nonsense is laughable.

I am curious what the mods think of Dr. Sabine Hossenfelder’s new book “Lost in Math” which levels the same criticisms at the field of physics.

One more thing I want to say to the mods who are unprofessional is that there is no good reason to be so mean spirited to people working on their own theories. Ideas can come from anywhere. The people who are working on their own theories are trying to help physics and the greater good. There is no good reason to get your rocks off scorning them. It’s not that I’m butt hurt or anything like that. It’s just part and parcel of the ugly side of the physics community. And by the way, I’ve read several papers on Arxiv and there are some really awful papers and ideas from within the community. So I just don’t get why not be gracious to amateurs working out their ideas. What is the source of the anger against people who are not in the field? Anyway, you are the mods, but I think you could handle it better. Attach a flag to posts or comments that the mods think are sketchy or speculative. Anyway, I’m outta here. I wasn’t getting any engagement on my ideas anyway. Thanks to the mods who were more reasonable.
